Fast Food Review: Pecan Chicken Salad Market Fresh Sandwich from Arby's

If you have been following GrubGrade for the past 6 months, then you have probably seen the video where Ryan is hunting for the Pecan Chicken Salad Market Fresh Sandwich from Arby's. I have also been on the hunt for it, and have recently discovered that it's no longer on their website menu either.  I feel this is one of the best Market Fresh Sandwiches that Arby's makes and deserves a review along with the others.  We have the pictures, so here's the elusive Arby's Pe can Chicken Salad Market Fresh Sandwich.

Described by Arby's as:

Freshly prepared chicken salad, made with grilled chicken, apples, grapes, celery, toasted pecans and mayo, with green leaf lettuce on thick sliced honey wheat bread. Just like from your favorite deli.

Obviously the Chicken Salad is my favorite in the Market Fresh Sandwich line, and I have the experience, as I've tried 4 of the 5 still listed on the menu.  (Check out our reviews of the Arby's Roast Turkey Ranch and Bacon Market Fresh Sandwich,  and the Arby's Roast Ham and Swiss Market Fresh Sandwich) .

I am very picky about chicken salad, but Arby's did it right. Their Pecan Chicken Salad is comprised of simple basic ingredients that combined together make a tasty sandwich.   The chicken appears to be lightly grilled, is very tender and is cut into bite sized cubes.   Celery, which is a standard ingredient in chicken salad,  is added to give it a standard chicken salad flavoring and extra crunch.  The apples (also cubed like the chicken) and grapes are fresh and add a nice balance of sweetness to the meal.  The other special ingredients are the roasted pecans which don't stand out as much as you'd think (being the first thing mentioned in the title of the sandwich).The bread is thick slices of honey wheat which is usually moist and soft, except at times the crust is a little dry. The chicken salad sits atop a slice of fresh lettuce and nestled between the 2 slices of bread.   I have never been disappointed with this sandwich and the mixture of ingredients has always been just right.

This sandwich has the most calories and fat of the other sandwiches in the Market Fresh line with 870 calories and 47 grams of fat. It is definitely worth the splurge if you can find an Arby's that still offers it. If you find it, make sure you order a Jamocha shake along with it… it's an amazing combination.  As Arby's continues to lean toward bringing the focus back on roast beef, some of the other menu items that really stood out to me are disappearing.  Here's hoping this sandwich makes a return some day.  Until then, I'll just make my own version and I'll share with you my recipe in an upcoming post.  Stay tuned!

Pros: Always tastes fresh. The sweetness of the fresh fruit adds another layer to the meal. A filling sandwich.

Cons: Sometimes the bread's crust is a little hard and dry. High in fat and calories. Arby's no longer offers it on their menu.
